October 2009

The January 2009 issue of Geographical magazine which featured one of Andy's tiger images on the cover has been awarded in the Magazine Cover Awards of 2009, the Maggies! The image, which won the Business and General Interest category, was of a 19 month old male and was taken in Bandhavgarh National Park, India. Also this month Andy has been asked to contribute a blog to the website of top UK wildlife photographer Niall Benvie. www.imagesfromtheedge.com The blog is a collaboration between three photographers and also includes macro and landscape specialist Paul Harcourt-Davies. Andy's primary role will be providing an insight into the extensive time he spends working out in the field with Niall continuing to develop his innovative and contemporary work with white backgrounds. Paul meanwhile will be contributing his blog from the comfort of his home in Italy

September 2009

Two new galleries from Andy's trips to the Shetland Islands have been uploaded to the Latest Images section. Shetland Summer gives a brief overview of some of the subjects covered whilst another gallery focuses exclusively on the arctic skua.

July and August 2009

During these months Andy will be making his final journey north to the Shetland Islands, with the vast majority of his time spent at Hermaness National Nature Reserve. This part of the assignment will present its own unique challenges which will include a daily 90 metre abseil just to get to the gannetry.

June 2009

Andy will spend the whole of July camping on a remote Shetland peninsula working on the underwater images.

May 2009

The first of what will be 3 trips to the Shetland Islands this summer, spending 7 days camping on the northern most tip of Hermaness National Nature Reserve. Also going to North Uist, the Monach Islands, and then out to St Kilda.

April 2009

Andy has been asked to become a Featured Photographer for the Wild Media Foundation, www.wildmedia.org, an environmental education initiative that has been conceived and created by two of the UKs leading wildlife photographers, Mark Hamblin and Pete Cairns. This initiative harnesses powerful and thought provoking imagery to bring nature's stories to life so for more information click on the WildMedia link above.

Subal Austria have kindly agreed to provide an ND30 underwater housing for the upcoming magazine assignment as some of Andy's work will involve trying to get images of gannets hunting underwater.

March 2009

A new selection of ptarmigan images have been uploaded to the Latest images page. These are a small selection of what was captured during 10 sun-free days in the Cairngorm Mountains during February.

February 2009

Confirmation this month that Andy has been commissioned by a major magazine to complete a portfolio of images on Britain's largest seabird, the Northern Gannet. This will involve spending the majority of the summer travelling to some of the UKs most remote islands including the Shetlands, St Kilda, Grassholm and Great Saltee in Southern Ireland.

January 2009

One of the agents that represent some of Andys work, Getty Images, have licensed five of his images to the USAs prestigious New York Times Newspaper.

Additionally an image of a 19 month old male tiger was used on the cover of Geographical magazine whilst on another magazine cover, this time RSPB Birds, an image of a coot silhouetted at sunset was used.
